Siren Living on the Land

Saoirse is a Siren whom has been living on land as an adopted member to the Flynn family with a strong prominent coven in Ireland. Known as a human to not particularly be intelligent but making up for it with a unique sense of genuineness, naivety, and bubbly unrelenting optimism and love. She is known as one odd woman however tends to be written off as harmless.

Personality[]

As a Siren she spent hundreds of years working and mingling with other creatures of the sea. She played with Dolphins, hung around Whales, as well as other Siren and other creatures. She thinks that Poseidon might be her father or creator but she is not sure. That being said while she has not met him she has talked with him through messengers and has a good relationship with him as she has performed requests while she was a creature of the sea. She thinks she may have met Aphrodite at a few points in time in one guise or another and she prays to both. She was always a bit of a playful, wistful creature that had a pure heart. She consumed humans as they made her powerful and they were absolutely delicious and this is the example other Siren and sea creatures set for her when it was revealed by them to her that they were viscous creatures. When she started realizing they were not just beings that attacked Siren and the other sea creatures but beings that had their own personalities, hopes, and dreams. Her curiosity about humans led her to evolve mentally. When she gained a human form she evolved beyond more of a monstrous intellect into a being that could think intelligently on her own. While she is still driven by instinct in her Siren form she also has critical thinking skills. She can talk, she can fight, and she can love. She has been around most if not all of the little ones in the Flynn family in her Siren form and has proven her love, devotion, and loyalty to them. The little ones would play with her in either form. She is still playful, perhaps even more so now. In her Siren form she is curious, flirtatious, and loves to play pranks, games, or do more wholesome things.

In her human form, the form that she spends almost all her time in these days she is friendly, playful, flirtatious, and babbly. She will go on and on and absolutely loves to talk. She loves to sing even more. She is outgoing to an extreme, and while she has gained far more intelligence than she has, she is still bordering on slow witted compared to a normal human. She is absolutely genuine of a person, and extroverted. You know what she feels, every emotion shines through and her heart is filled with love. She is open and optimistic and wants the best for everyone, though she has learned that not everyone is a good person. She is very physical and shows affection and closeness through touch usually. Hugs, touches, hanging on someone, she will do these to people she first meets even. She struggles with societal norms and stands out often to the point where people think she may possibly have a mental handicap.

Saoirse comes off as purehearted, but holds terrible pain inside herself. She is in decay. Her natural form is unhealthy. She has not fed on the soul or flesh of humans in 40 years, and has not truly charmed anyone being around those she loves she does not feed upon them purposely. The desire to feed on humans is there deep down, she pushes it deep down. Being magically potent is less important to her than interpersonal relationships with her adoptive family whom she loves very much. She enjoys humans, and has not worked out how to be healthy living as one. She would rather let herself diminish than hurt others. She also has become a rather social creature and by being social she feeds herself and her desires but potentially hurts others so she is very conflicted on many levels.

SKILLS[]

ARCHERY

Saoirse has learned how to hunt with a bow and is fairly skilled. She only uses archery in her human form, not having the patience or forethought in her Siren form. When she has had to be armed in human form she prefers the bow and arrow.

COOKING

It was rough going at first as she would shriek at the trickery of the gas or wood-fired stove. However with the commonality of electric ranges she can now try her hand at cooking. She will not use gas or wood-fired equipment, but she can cook with microwaves (she refers to them as magical cooking boxes) and electric ranges and ovens. While she is not a master of any cuisine she can follow a recipe and make tasty dishes with minimal instruction.

MODERN SAILING

Saoirse has skill in sailing and navigation. She can navigate by stars or a map. Though her mathematics are fairly weak the invention of modern technology means she can navigate through most boating needs just fine as long as the modern electronics are functional.

NANNY

Saoirse has helped raise many of the Flynn family from little children in both human and Siren form. She has experience with children and can be a rather good nanny.

SINGING

Probably not surprising that a Siren is a naturally gifted songstress. She is an absolute master of song, and any time she sings she is always on pitch and sounds wonderful able to entertain entire stadiums of people if she so wished. Her songs sound like perfection and exactly how she intends them to come out.

CASTING[]

RITUAL MAGIC

Saoirse has learned some basic ritual magic, and can perform simple feats of earth, wind, or water magic however cannot cast anything relating to electrical or fire magic. She has issues with advanced rituals and while she may be capable of performing more moderate magic the chance that she would botch it is fairly likely.

SONG OF ANGER

This song is one with or without words. Words will make the song easier to resist but those whom are affected will be effected to a stronger extent. The song centers on the part of the brain that makes people irritated, irritable. People affected by this song will be very quick to anger and agitation, and will remain so once agitated. This song can be added to a song with words or can be sung without.

SONG OF CHAOS

This song brings about a myriad of lust, anger, agitation, a weakening of pain and inhibition, pleasure, pain, happiness, and depression. It is a myriad of rotating emotions, erratic, randomly taking emotions and feelings and mixing them together. This song is powerful and unpredictable. This song can be sung with or without words, but words make it stronger, but very obvious where it is coming from.

SONG OF CHARM

This is a newer song that Saoirse has been working on creating. It is something that can be added to regular conversation, a song, or a wail in her Siren form. While actively trying to use this ability her voice sounds mildly hypnotic. It lightly stimulates centers of the brain that control calmness and delight releasing a extremely mild euphoric effect. Those that are charmed by her want to hear more and may draw more interest than normal towards her. She also feeds on those that have fallen under the effects. It is her attempt to craft a means of feeding herself magically without causing harm to others. Those that are under the effect of the charm are generally more passive and agreeable than usual as they are feeling what might described as a natural high for those not knowing what is happening to them.

SONG OF LOVE

This is a newer song that Saoirse has been working on creating to honor Aphrodite the goddess of love. This song can be added to the effects of normal speech, a song, or used as a Sirens wail. The song brings forward the thoughts of those that those hearing truly love. It can mess with enchantments that might make someone forget about someone they love, or if they might be having thoughts of adultery they might go back to their mate instead. Feelings of how that person makes them feel which is usually a positive trait will be stirred in those affected. Of course if the love is unrequited, or there was something negative it can also bring forward feelings of negativity. Considering the randomness of love the song is completely unpredictable. The love does not have to be romantic, it can also be familial such as a mother loving a son.

SONG OF LUST

This song is one without words. It is a song that is equivalent of a very potent aphrodisiac. This song inspires lusty feelings inside its victims though does not lead them towards particular people or thoughts. The song can be a powerful tool for making (usually others) mate, or even more powerfully a song of distraction and confusion. Those that are affected by the song feel sexy, their bodies tingle, pleasure centers in their brains are more reactive. Skin tingles, sensations are stronger. The song can lower inhibitions of those that do not have the willpower to resist it. The longer one is exposed to the song, the more difficult it is to ignore the effects and stay on-task. The effect of the song cannot change sexual orientation, nor will it override someones will. The effect of the song is very powerful when sung in Siren form. In human form its effects can be added to a regular song with a reduced effect.

SONG OF MERCY

This song is one without words. It is a song that dulls pain and focuses elicits a euphoria within the brain. This song can help those in extreme pain to pass into calmness and relax, used to ease pain when one passes from this world. While it does not actually perform any healing, it will keep those affected from being in pain. The effect of the song are strong in Siren from. In human form its effects can be added to a song with a reduced level of effectiveness.

WARD CHARMS

Saoirse has become moderately skilled in the creation of charms. She focuses on containment charms to wear to try and minimize the effect that her voice has to others. Her power draws from primarily water based effects and the sea and generally always has some little touch of the sea to them.

POWERS[]

BREATHE UNDERWATER

Saoirse is able to breathe underwater, and cannot have her oxygen supply cut off while underwater.

CHARMED TELEPATHY

Saoirse can place thoughts or converse with others dependant upon how much they are charmed by her at the time. Those whom are barely charmed can have perhaps a word in their mind. Those that are moderately charmed can have a one way conversation of Saoirse to the intended, and those that are heavily charmed can have a two-way conversation with Saoirse.

CHARM RESISTANT

As a being of charm Saoirse is resistant against being charmed herself. She is unable to be charmed or affected by other Siren songs, and she can be very difficult to hypnotize or to have her memory sealed away. It is far easier to just convince her to do something than it is to try to force her to do it.

DARKVISION

Saoirse can see in complete darkness.

SIREN CLAWS

Normally Saoirse has the hands of a human, however in intense situations she can reform her hands into a short set of claws that can scratch steel, or strengthened 2.5 foot long claws that are incredibly sharp and can pierce steel. They can be summoned in either Human or Siren form and form within seconds, however in order to retract them to normal hands it takes between 2 and 5 minutes.

SIREN FORM

Being a Siren is what drives Saoirse even in human form. There is always a compulsion to sing and be near, if not in water. Other magical creatures have a process when transforming between human and magical beast forms and Saoirse is no different. She transforms quite a bit of mass to become a giant lamia-esque creature and this is not a fast process. There are a few factors that come into play. The first is if she is within water - being in a body of water means she can submerge within sea water and transform almost instantaneously like an underwater explosion. It takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute within fresh water. On land it is a slower transition, from 2 minutes to 10 depending on how moist the air is and how far from a major body of water she is.

In Siren form she has:

Sharp, scary-looking teeth that do Basic+ damage. Don't stick your finger in there.
25+ Foot long tail, hard to miss.
Gray, faded hair
Sharp, razor-like nails, which can grow to downright sword-length claws that do Enhanced-level damage. (Siren Claws power).
An enchanting voice that can potentially charm others just by speaking, and is both eerie, frightening, and beautiful when singing. Its powers are details in her song-based casting abilities.
While in water, she has Supernatural-level speed and agility, allowing her to skim the surface, swim, and move at supernatural speeds, but only while immersed in water.
On land she she is not as agile, having a lot more body to move. She can move quickly on fairly smooth surfaces, and climb trees. She is not great with agility, however, having more difficulty moving out of the way of something in time. Her major strength would be getting up close with superhuman crushing power of her tail if she can twine around something. In practical terms, she can make quick strikes at Enhanced level, but for maneuvering she is limited to Basic+ level.
In Siren form Saoirse loses some of the intelligence she has as a human and becomes more beast-like.
The transformation between Siren and Human forms is not particularly painful and is more like a reflex. Outside of water it can be rather exhausting, depending on the amount of time it takes.
There is always a hunger for human essences, to charm them and feed on them. This craving is stronger in her Siren form and more difficult to suppress.
Mating - In siren form, Saoirse's intsincts toward choosing a mate are much stronger. She is a person who values love, but if she were to mate she would value strength. Someone whom can show her dominance. If it's someone weaker than her than she will not want to bear their children. She loves people she likes, but she'll have children with people she absolutely loathes and hates. This comes from her Siren side. If she were to have children she would likely have at least 1 to 12.

WATER HEALING

Saoirse will heal very quickly when immersed in water. Having pure water can close open wounds, sea water is even more effective. And being in large bodies of water or the sea will heal even the most grievous of injuries. Outside of water however she does not have advanced healing abilities.

WATER SIGHT

Saoirse can see anything within sight of water as long as there is a uninterrupted continual flow and she is touching the water. For instance if there is a continual flow of water in a storm drain flowing into a pond and she puts her feet into the pond she can follow that water up to its connecting points. In this way she can watch different kind of scenes, however she does not have the ability to hear them.

ADVANTAGES[]

ANTI-SIREN CHARM

Saoirse wears a magical charm that wards against the effects of her charm. The quality of the charm is above average and its effects are mild. Each day the charm is worn it gives the the effects of 1 of the deadly sins on a mild level. That means that a personality tweak could be gluttony, wrath, lust, sloth, etc.

APHRODITE

Saoirse has never knowingly spoken directly with Aphrodite however she thinks she has through human guises and dreams. She credits Aphrodite with her awakening to having a better understanding of humans and being able to live as one of them. Unknowingly her human form was granted as a gift to her by the Goddess as a reward. Saoirse is a devout follower and has been for some time, over time Aphrodite has kept an eye on her and tried to guide her towards her ideals through life in dreams. Saoirse may not be her most intelligent follower, but she is diligent and earnestly sincere. Saoirse is never completely certain if she had a regular dream or something divine when speaking with Aphrodite in a dream, but usually follows them as if they are. Saoirse prays regularly to Aphrodite and confides in her regularly.

HOUSEBOAT

It is a boat and it is a house. It is a house made out of a boat! A large rather modern tugboat was retrofitted to be a home for Saoirse. A custom refit design it is a rather luxury boat that Saoirse as well as visiting Flynn family members live upon. With 3 stories the lower level is engines and major food storage, the middle is a kitchen, and dining area with a slightly sunken living area and media/entertainment area. The top level is the master bedroom and bath and a few smaller guest bedrooms as well as deck access to a small outdoor lounge area fitted with emergency rafts. The main navigation room is in the front of the boat outside of the middle floor.

POSEIDON

She suspects that the god of the sea is her father/creator but she really is not sure and has no proof. She has conversed with Poseidon through messengers of the ocean and performed various tasks for him when when he would make requests. One might say she is in good standing with him, though she is not quite sure what he thinks of her blending in with the humans. She prays regularly to Poseidon usually near larger bodies of water.

SWIMMING

Saoirse excels in swimming in her natural form she could probably beat an olympic swimmer. In her Siren form she can move through the water with inhuman speed, grace, and agility. She is immune to gravimetric pressure so she can go as deep into the ocean as she wishes where other things like vessels would implode.

WEAKNESSES[]

A FISH OUT OF WATER

If Saoirse spends too much time away from large bodies of water, at least 3-5 days, her hair will begin to gray, taking 1-2 days to turn fully gray. Her skin will begin to pale, and she will turn become sluggish and feel sick. Soaking in water imported from the sea will negate the negative effects on her body but she will need to soak in the sea at some point. Pouring water from the sea over her can give temporary relief for symptoms.

BANGLE OF APHRODITE

On her right wrist Saoirse wears a magically enchanted bangle. It is a simple silver color that changes hue very softly with her mood. This bangle can move about on her arm, however is magically enchanted to her and will not come off. This bangle is what attaches Aphrodites power to Saoirse and allows her to remain in check with her hunger. This bangle is also what the True Love curse is bound to. Saoirse views it as a magical gift by Sorsha Flynn and and views it as her link to her and the Flynn family coven that adopted her into them. Without its power she would become far more Siren like, with a thirst for magical energy from charming humans and other creatures, a desire to drive them mad, and to consume their life essence to gain power for herself.

CHARMING VOICE

The softer that Saoirse speaks the less effective her normal charm has on a person. If she whispers there is about null effect. If she talks softly it can take hours for even the most mild effect. Talking at a normal rate will begin to charm anyone in earshot, and talking loudly will have a stronger effect.

COMPULSION TO SING

There is a strong compulsion to sing, and whenever a song comes on she feels the desire to sing along, which could also be quite dangerous considering her voice can incite others. When near the sea she feels a stronger compulsion to sing a Siren's song. When she is in her Lamia true from this compulsion is even stronger, with moments that will be very difficult to resist.

FIRE AND LIGHTNING

Fire is something that has both fascinated, and frightened Saoirse. She had never seen Fire in the ocean - it simply didn't exist as far as she was concerned. It is in opposition to water, to the sea. Lightning is also very dangerous to her and she has learned to fear it. She has phobia's about both, and is weak against any magic or supernatural source of the two. She is completely unable to use any magic containing earth or lightning.

MAGICAL BLOOD

The magical qualities of Saoirse's blood are apparent to those that can sense magical energies, and her blood has a more unique taste/scent as a Siren. Being a rather rare magical creature on land means she can be tracked easier and stands out.

MAGICAL NEEDS

She can survive on food finding fish to be absolutely delicious. As a divine creature she can live indefinitely however that does not mean she will live healthily. She requires a stream of regular magical content in order to maintain her. The large part of this is provided by the goddess Aphrodite which helps to keep cravings for human essence in check, especially when she prays for help or things get more dire. There is a craving to consume human essence, their life force from them. It's addictive, and fills her in a way that is euphoric beyond what could be physically explained. She pulls small amounts of magical energy when someone is charmed by her voice or under its effects, and a group increases the effects. If she does not keep a food source, either people, divine intervention, or charm then she would begin to decline within a few weeks.

MENTALLY SLOW

Saoirse doesn't follow changes that well around her, and she can have difficulty following connections between people, events, or various things. Her mind doesn't have quite the same logical thought process. She can seem dense, slow, not paying attention, or like she has a mental handicap.

MODERN RECORDINGS

Modern technology has come far enough that if Saoirse voice is recorded with lossless technology or her song it can have a powerful effect on the listening. Her voice is more dangerous in this format without the person it is attached to, there is no control and the effects are random and addictive. The victim will want to hear the sound again, and again, and more. The more they listen, the more it starts to make their behavior erratic. It can very slowly drive those with low willpower mad, and those with higher levels can eventually be worn down and start acting out of character.

PHYSICALLY AFFECTIONATE

Saoirse is a very physical being. She can have difficulty in expressing herself verbally and relies heavily on physical touch. Touching, hugs, brushing someone's face, sitting on them and other things. Things not generally okay for a stranger to do, much less an adult are things that she does rather openly.

POWER OF THE MOON

Much like some shifters Saoirse feels the pull of the moon and during a full moon feels an overwhelming need to shift into her natural form. She can contain it till she's somewhere safe, but she will be shifting for the night at some point, the longer she resists the more fatigue she will feel. Her shift will determine how she feels till the next full moon (or general shift). If she shifts near a body of water, especially the sea she will be filled with an abundance of energy and she will feel refreshed. If she doesn't have water available she will feel fatigue quicker throughout the month. This can be offset by falling back into her natural form within a large body of water, or the sea.

TRUE LOVE

There is a curse upon Saoirse that those whom she truly loves have influence over her. That means those she considers true friends, family, and lovers can (and have) exerted their will. It's a compulsion that the stronger she feels about someone the stronger that compulsion is. If she truly loves someone as close as she considers to be family the urge to follow their will can be downright overwhelming. The more she likes a person will also decrease the effectiveness

WATER OBSESSION

Saoirse loves water. She loves being covered in it, she loves staring at it, the way it moves in a glass, she loves when it rains. Saltwater is preferable however any water will draw her attention and potentially distract her. She's been known to play with water, drip water in a glass on her skin in a restaurant.

Saoirse was born as a Siren - a creature born of divinity to live in the sea. Her true form resembled that of a Lamia - with the upper half of her body being human and the lower half being snakelike. Living in the sea her early life was that filled with wonder and awe. Curiosity and adventure. She was alone since little and as far back as she can remember. She could not be sure which deity bore her but she could hear different ones through the sea. If they were her parents or not when there was a request she obeyed - after all it led to an adventure. She found herself socializing with other Siren and creatures of the sea from time to time as she matured and they would sing together. Sometimes men would shipwreck and she learned that they could consume them. She was taught that man was a viscous creature that harmed the sea, and would kill Siren without mercy, she saw it happen and knew it to be true. So the Siren consumed the essence of men taking their lives and in awful agony and torment. The fish of the sea were delicious, but nothing was quite as satisfying as that of the creatures that were man. They were addictive and they made Siren truly powerful. She saw that Siren had a intense hatred of man. They would lure them out with Siren songs and shipwreck them. They were beasts that were being put down. She didn't think too much of it at the time.

Our little Sirens viewpoint began to change when she swam into a ship that was sinking. She found an injured man alone whom was injured. He couldn't make it off the ship after being fatally wounded and stuck after it sunk in a large air bubble. Saoirse flopped beside him as he laid dying. She knew what was happening to him, and while she didn't understand his words she heard him pray. Maybe he called her beautiful? Maybe he called her demon? Maybe he prayed for his next life? She felt compassion for him and she sung for him. A song of no words, it was a song of sweetness and sadness. It was a lullaby that dulled his pain and brought him euphoria as he was passing from one life to the next. As she watched him pass she felt strange about consuming him. She decided to leave him as the ship sunk to his resting place. What Saoirse did not realize was that this man was praying to the Goddess Aphrodite. He was important to her, maybe they were lovers? Maybe he was her child? We may never know. But Aphrodite was able to watch as that man whom was important to her was about to be consumed by a viscous Siren. She was surprised to find the Siren sing him a lullaby that helped him pass peacefully instead of violently. Taking an interest in her, the Siren had a strange dream.

Seeing a beautiful blonde human woman, they swam together. Eventually the woman perched on some floating debris and said her name was Aphrodite! The Siren could understand her! She said that the Siren was someone good, and had earned a wish. She asked what she could grant her. The Siren thought. She needed not food, she had no malicious intent. She asked if she could explain to her what love was. Humans said that word, it was important to them. Aphrodite smiled and patted the Siren on the head, calling her a good child.

After the dream the Siren began to have new thoughts and emotions. Some time later after an attack other Siren feasted upon humans from a wreck. She found a woman whom was hiding by playing dead in the wreckage of the ship she was on. The Siren found the woman so curious, a woman like her on the top, but the bottom was legs like a man. She carefully snuck out the woman to a island. It was uninhabited by man but the woman would not drown. The woman climbed onto the land. She was a needy thing. She was very cold and shivering. The Siren slithered from the water onto land and coiled herself around the woman to try and warm and protect her. The woman eventually came to. She had many words that the Siren could not understand. She seemed curious about the Siren just as the Siren was curious about her.

Humans were needy creatures indeed. She kept her human alive by bringing her fish. She started fire to cook the fish before consuming it. Seeing humans as living intelligent beings. The human got weaker and weaker as they spent more time together. She couldn't drink the water of the sea. She needed to go back with humans. Building a makeshift raft, the human fell asleep and wouldn't wake up. So the Siren put her on the raft and swam with all of her might towards humans. She fell into unconsciousness. She and her human companion washed ashore the shores of Ireland. After washing ashore and drying out the Siren had legs, she was like a human. She woke to the human woman tending to her.

Maybe she was cast out of the sea for helping a human? Maybe this was a gift? The woman's name was Sorsha Flynn, and she took the Siren into her family naming her Saoirse Flynn. The youngest member of the Flynn family and part of a coven, she spent time next to Saoirse as she taught her to speak. They began to teach her how to think, how humans think. She became an individual. A curse was placed on Saoirse by the head of the Flynn family - a curse of True Love. Those that Saoirse truly loves shall be able to sway her actions. This was a safety net to control the Siren.

Dreams with Aprodite were rare, but did continue. A different person each time, all the time beautiful. She told Saoirse that she was rewarded for saving the the human, Sorsha as she was important to her. Her reward was her human form. She couldn't live the same way - consuming humans, living on land and out of the sea. The path she was on would lead to her diminishing and becoming a beast. In her dreams Aphrodite told her that she would support Saoirse if she followed her and acted in accordance with her will. Saoirse agreed and found her cravings for human essence while not disappearing, diminishing. She was being nourished from another source. The more she spread positivity and love the more she was nourished and the better she felt.

As time went on Saoirse and Sorsha grew very close. Saoirse saw Sorsha as someone like a sister as she was adopted into the family. Then as something more. A confidant. A close friend, and eventually a lover. Sorsha grew older yet Saoirse did not. Saoirse was brought into the Coven as a junior member and Sorsha eventually married and had children. Her life was a changing, evolving, yet Saoirse remained a constant. Eventually Sorsha grew old and became the head of the Flynn family and an elder member of the coven. Saoirse did not change, she did not grow old. She would need to be moved as the Flynn family had met been having difficulty explaining why Saoirse was unaging. So the family has brought Saoirse to America to stay for a while and see if they can settle her in for a time before consideration of moving her back to Ireland..someday.
